Multiwall polycarbonate is the most practical glazing for swimming pool enclosures: it transmits up to 82% of daylight, insulates far better than single glass, weighs a fraction of glass, and cold-bends into arched roofs that shed water and snow. Jietai manufactures multiwall polycarbonate sheet from 4 mm to 30 mm thick, and one translucent pool enclosure built from it holds heat in winter, resists the chlorine-humid air that corrodes steel and fogs glass, and stays clear through years of direct sun.
The Challenge
A pool enclosure sits in the harshest indoor climate a glazing can face. Warm, chlorine-humid air rises off the water and condenses on any cold surface; the roof carries wind and snow load; and the glazing must pass daylight without letting UV ageing, condensation or corrosion ruin the space. Glass is heavy, needs a steel frame that rusts in pool air, and can shed dangerous shards if a ball or a dropped tool strikes it. Owners want a light, safe, self-supporting cover that keeps the pool open in every season.
Our Solution
As a manufacturer, Jietai extrudes multiwall polycarbonate sheet with a co-extruded UV layer on the weather face, in twin-wall, triple-wall, four-wall, five-wall X and honeycomb structures, at a standard width of 2100 mm and lengths from 6 m up to 12 m on request. For pool roofs we typically recommend 10 mm or 16 mm multiwall sheet: it carries a U-value low enough to hold heat in winter, and it cold-bends to follow an arched frame without heat forming.

Project — Indoor Pool with Arched Skylight Roof
For an indoor leisure pool we supplied translucent multiwall polycarbonate sheet formed into an arched skylight over the pool hall. The panels follow the curve of the roof, bring even, glare-free daylight onto the water, and keep the hall usable year-round without the weight of a glass-and-steel structure. Because the multi-wall air channels trap heat, the water temperature holds steady and the heating bill drops through the colder months.

Design Considerations
Condensation control
Seal the upper ends of the flutes with solid aluminium tape and the lower ends with anti-dust breather tape, so moisture can drain instead of fogging the channels.
Thermal expansion
Leave about 6 mm of movement per metre of sheet and drill fastener holes 2–3 mm larger than the screw, so the panels expand and contract without buckling.
UV protection
Always point the co-extruded UV layer toward the sun. It blocks the wavelengths that cause yellowing and is backed by a 10–15 year warranty against weathering.
The Results
The enclosed pool now delivers bright, even natural light while cutting the weight and breakage risk of glass, and the multiwall insulation lowers heating costs. Polycarbonate is rated at roughly 200 times the impact strength of glass and meets B1 fire rating, so the enclosure is safe for a busy public pool.
Why Source from a Manufacturer
Jietai is a manufacturer serving pool builders, architects and contractors directly. We supply cut-to-size, pre-drilled multiwall sheet together with the matching aluminium glazing profiles, tapes and fasteners, so your pool enclosure arrives ready to install.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best polycarbonate thickness for a pool enclosure?
10 mm or 16 mm multiwall sheet is the usual choice: it balances light transmission with the insulation a pool hall needs in cold weather. Thicker 20–30 mm sheet suits larger spans or very cold climates.
Does polycarbonate turn yellow in pool air?
No. The co-extruded UV layer on the weather face blocks the wavelengths responsible for yellowing, and the sheet carries a 10–15 year warranty against weathering.
Can polycarbonate be bent into an arched pool roof?
Yes. Multiwall sheet cold-bends to a minimum radius of roughly 175 times its thickness, so it follows arched frames without heat forming.
How do you stop condensation inside the flutes?
Seal the top edge with solid aluminium tape and the bottom edge with anti-dust breather tape. This lets any condensation drain while keeping dust and insects out.
Is polycarbonate pool glazing safe?
Yes. Polycarbonate is rated at about 200 times the impact strength of glass and meets B1 fire rating, so it will not shatter into dangerous shards.
