Project Overview
This dome-shaped greenhouse project showcases the application of Jietai hollow polycarbonate sheets in modern agricultural structures. Designed for year-round crop cultivation in a temperate climate zone, this greenhouse features a distinctive dome profile that maximizes interior growing space while minimizing material usage. The project covers approximately 300 square meters of growing area.
The Challenge
Dome-shaped greenhouses present unique structural requirements compared to traditional gable or tunnel designs. The polycarbonate panels needed to fit into a curved framework while maintaining uniform insulation performance across all sections. The client also required high light transmission for optimal plant growth, combined with sufficient thermal insulation to maintain stable nighttime temperatures.

Our Solution
Jietai supplied multi-wall hollow polycarbonate sheets with optimized light transmission (82%) and excellent thermal insulation (U-value: 2.5 W/m²K). The sheets were precision-cut to fit the dome’s radial framework pattern, with overlapping joints sealed against moisture ingress. The hollow structure provided natural insulation while the anti-drip coating prevented condensation from falling onto crops.

Results
- 300m² dome greenhouse completed on schedule
- Stable interior temperature maintained at 20-28°C year-round
- Light transmission sufficient for tomato and pepper cultivation
- Energy savings estimated at 35% compared to glass greenhouse
- Successful first harvest cycle with increased yield
Polycarbonate hollow sheets were selected for this dome greenhouse project due to their excellent combination of light transmission and thermal insulation. The multi-wall structure creates insulating air pockets that significantly reduce heat loss compared to single-layer materials, maintaining warmer nighttime temperatures essential for crop growth during cold seasons. The lightweight nature of hollow polycarbonate sheets simplified the installation process, reducing the structural framing requirements and overall project costs. Each panel was custom-cut to precise dimensions matching the dome’s radial geometry, with expansion gaps incorporated to accommodate thermal movement across the temperature range of -30°C to +40°C. The anti-drip coating on the interior surface prevents condensation from forming into droplets that could fall onto plants, instead allowing moisture to run down the panel walls. This feature is particularly valuable in greenhouse environments where humidity levels are consistently high and water droplets on foliage can promote fungal disease development.
Why Jietai
Jietai offers a complete range of polycarbonate sheets suitable for agricultural greenhouse applications. Our hollow polycarbonate sheets combine light weight, high strength, and excellent insulation, making them the ideal choice for modern farming structures worldwide.
