Project Overview
This ski resort magic carpet tunnel project demonstrates the application of Jietai solid polycarbonate sheets in winter sports infrastructure. Located in a northern Chinese ski resort, the tunnel protects skiers and snowboarders as they ascend the magic carpet conveyor, shielding them from wind, snow, and cold temperatures. The tunnel spans approximately 80 meters in length and serves as a covered passage for beginner slope access.
The Challenge
The magic carpet tunnel needed to withstand extreme winter conditions including heavy snow loads, strong winds, and sub-zero temperatures as low as -30°C. The transparent panels had to maintain clarity in severe cold without becoming brittle or cracking. Additionally, the structure needed to allow natural light penetration while providing adequate protection from wind chill for waiting skiers.

Our Solution
Jietai supplied high-impact solid polycarbonate sheets in clear grade, engineered for low-temperature performance. The panels feature co-extruded UV protection on both sides and are rated for continuous use at -40°C without embrittlement. The sheets were installed in an aluminum frame system with gasketed seals to prevent snow infiltration, creating a warm, bright tunnel environment.

Results
- 80-meter covered tunnel installed before peak ski season
- Zero panel failure during -30°C winter conditions
- Natural lighting maintained throughout tunnel length
- Wind protection reduced perceived temperature inside tunnel by 8-12°C
- Positive feedback from skiers and resort management
Ski resort infrastructure requires building materials that can perform reliably under extreme winter conditions. The magic carpet tunnel at this northern Chinese ski resort experiences heavy snowfall accumulation, strong winds, and temperatures that regularly drop below -30°C during the peak winter season. Jietai solid polycarbonate sheets were chosen for their exceptional low-temperature impact resistance. Unlike glass or acrylic panels that can become brittle and crack in severe cold, polycarbonate maintains its impact strength even at -40°C. The clear panels allow natural daylight to illuminate the tunnel interior, creating a bright and welcoming environment for skiers waiting to access the magic carpet conveyor. This natural lighting reduces the need for electric lighting during daytime hours, contributing to the resort’s energy efficiency goals. The aluminum framing system incorporates thermal break technology to minimize heat transfer through the structure, and all panel joints are sealed with EPDM gaskets rated for extreme cold weather service.
Why Jietai
Jietai’s solid polycarbonate sheets are trusted for extreme climate applications including ski resorts, cold storage, and high-altitude facilities. Our sheets are tested for low-temperature impact resistance and UV stability, backed by comprehensive warranties.
