Project Overview
A commercial development needed bright, weather-protected walkways, entrance skylights and covered parking areas. The developer wanted a glazing material that would let in plenty of natural light, stand up to outdoor exposure, and go up quickly without heavy lifting equipment. Jietai supplied multiwall polycarbonate sheets with a co-extruded UV layer, and the whole canopy system was finished on a tight schedule.
The Challenge
Tempered glass was ruled out early. It is heavy, expensive to frame, and risky to handle across long curved spans. Single-wall acrylic would have been cheaper but lacks the impact resistance a public walkway needs. Solid steel roofing would have solved the weather issue while leaving the covered areas dark and unwelcoming. The client needed one material that balanced light, strength, insulation and cost.
Our Solution

We recommended twin-wall and triple-wall polycarbonate sheets. The hollow rib construction combines high light transmission with real thermal insulation, and the co-extruded UV layer protects the surface from yellowing over years of sun exposure. Standard 2100 mm wide sheets were cut to length on site, which cut waste and shortened the install. Each panel was fitted onto aluminium glazing bars that absorb thermal movement, so the sheets stay flat and stable through seasonal temperature swings.
Results

The finished canopies flood the walkways and skylights with even daylight while blocking almost all harmful UV. Because the sheets weigh only a fraction of glass, the supporting framework stayed light and affordable. The blue-tinted and clear panels give the whole complex a clean, modern look, and the covered parking area stays bright without artificial lighting during the day. The client finished on schedule and expects the canopy to stay clear and serviceable for well over ten years.
