Jietai recently supplied clear solid polycarbonate sheet for two safety-critical glazing projects: a machine guarding enclosure at a steel rolling plant, and a highway sound barrier alongside a residential corridor. Both applications rely on the same core property of solid polycarbonate, its impact strength of roughly 200 times that of glass, to protect people while keeping visibility fully open.
The Challenge
The steel plant needed transparent guarding around high-speed rolling and stamping equipment. Operators had to watch the machinery at all times, but steel mesh and opaque panels blocked the view. Glass was rejected because a single impact could shatter it into dangerous fragments. The highway project faced a different problem: reduce traffic noise for nearby apartment blocks without turning the barrier into a solid wall that cut off daylight and sight lines.
Our Solution
For the machine guarding, Jietai supplied 4 mm clear solid polycarbonate sheets cut to panel size and mounted into aluminium frames. The clear sheet keeps the production line fully visible while its impact resistance stops flying debris, broken tooling and fast-moving parts from reaching operators. For the sound barrier, transparent solid polycarbonate panels were fitted into the upper section of the barrier, with acoustic panels below, so the barrier cuts noise yet preserves an open, bright outlook for residents.
